Absolute MRI
Magnetic Resonance Imaging
MRI uses a magnetic field & radiofrequency wave to obtain detailed images of the body. Our state of the art MRI scanner produces detailed images with advanced software applied to produce high quality scans for diagnosis.
We identify disease or injury, completely painlessly and without using radiation.
A note of caution; while magnetism does not affect normal tissues, it may cause problems with metal implants or pacemakers, so it important you let us know if you have anything like this.
MRI scanners can be a little noisy – we provide you with earplugs and background music of your choice to make the procedure more tolerable.
We have a wide diameter scanner to accommodate patients of all body sizes.
If you are particularly anxious or claustrophobic, we are more than happy to show you our MRI machine prior to your scan, so you can see how we do things. Give our friendly team a call to arrange a look.

SEDATION INFO
Some patients require sedation to complete examinations or procedures.
There are many reasons why patients require sedation prior to examinations. Some of these include claustrophobia or generalised anxiety regarding imaging examinations.
We understand that it is a necessity for some patients to require sedation to enable completion of required studies. We regularly have patients requiring sedation and have appropriate measures in place to ensure that this process is completed safely and without complication.
Our team are friendly, helpful and professional and will fully assist you with taking your sedation on the day.
How do I go about arranging sedation medication?
You will need to contact your GP and request a prescription for sedation for your examination. Once a script has been completed, you will need to collect this from your regular pharmacy and bring this medication along with you to your appointment at Absolute Radiology.
IMPORTANT: Do not take the sedation medication prior to your appointment. Wait until advised to take this by our radiology team.
How do I prepare for sedation?
We ask that you remain nil by mouth for approximately 2 hours prior to having sedation. However, you can have sips of clear fluid right up until you take your sedation medication.
You will also require someone to drive you home and stay with you for the next 24 hours following taking sedation medication.
Post Procedure Info
Side effects of some sedation medications can last for up to 24 hours following administration. You may not remember some of the information discussed, this is a normal side effect.
For the next 24 hours you should not:
Drive or operate any vehicles or machinery
Drink alcohol
Make any important decisions
Sign any legal documents
Travel unaccompanied

Pre-Appointment Safety Check
You will need to complete this safety check form prior to your scan to ensure you are safe to undergo this procedure.
Safety Info
While magnetism does not affect normal tissue, it may cause problems with metal implants or pacemakers, so it is important you inform us prior to your appointment if you have these.
Occasionally we will inject a small amount of fluid to augment the magnetic properties of some tissues, so it is essential we know about any allergies you might have.
The procedure is entirely safe, but some people find the confines and noise of the scanner difficult to tolerate for an extended period, so we routinely use earplugs and background music of your choice to make the procedure more comfortable. Our scanner has a wide bore that provides more flexibility for patients.
There is no restriction for cosmetic tattooing on our scanner.
Please feel free to call us to discuss any questions or concerns you may have with our team. We are here to assist you in every way.
Sedation Safety Info
Do you know you require sedation?
Please let us know as soon as possible so we can provide you with information and ensure your allowed appointment time is suitable.
There also may be differences in the way your GP may advise you to take your sedation medication and the process that we ask you to follow. This is because we need you to complete patient safety questionnaires and consent forms on the day of your scan or procedure, that require you to be of clear mind to complete. This is a legal requirement to be of clear mind when consenting for procedures.
If you or your GP have any questions regarding this, please don’t hesitate to call us directly.
We are happy to discuss our processes regarding sedation.
